As we all know, cannabis is well established in Spain. Thanks to the warm, dry climate, hemp grows quite well. As a result, a large proportion of the CBD flowers offered for sale in France come from our trans-Pyrenean neighbors. These are high quality, powerful and tasty flowers, which are sold wholesale or retail to CBD shops, retailers and consumers.
But what is probably less well known is the importance of cannabis cultivation. In Spain, the first significant traces of the plant date back to the 8th century, when Moorish conquerors imported cannabis for medicinal purposes. Today, Spain's approach to cannabis is pragmatic and liberal, with increasing discussion of its possible legalization.
Bilbao's Spannabis, Europe's new cannabis mecca?
In 2023, Expogram, the major event dedicated to cannabis in the Basque Country, was unfortunately cancelled. Faced with the lack of a large-scale event in the region, a brand new fair was announced: Spannabis Bilbao. But why there? Firstly, the local cannabis community and culture is booming. What's more, the city is magnificent and will provide an exceptional setting for all participants, speakers and visitors.
Spannabis Bilbao will take place at the exhibition center. This huge 10,000m² space will be entirely dedicated to the world of hemp and cannabis. In addition, there will be 2,000m² of outdoor space for meetings and refreshments. The event is eagerly awaited as a real alternative to the Feria del Cáñamo.
When will Spannabis Bilbao take place?
The Spannabis Bilbao event will take place on September 20, 21 and, finally, 22, 2024. Want to get there? It's easy. After that, Spannabis Barcelona
Before Spannabis Bilbao, Spannabis Barcelona will take place. As its name suggests, the latter will take place in the heart of the Catalan capital next March. Nearly 300 major exhibitors are expected on site. Two major events are scheduled to take place on site:
- The World Cannabis Conference,
- The Spannabis Champions Cup.
Held annually for the past 12 years, this trade show brings together companies, activities, consumers, growers, producers and cannabis industry professionals from all over the world. It's a chance for everyone to get an overview of advances in cultivation, technology, products and scientific research.
It has become one of Europe's leading discussion forums, where consumers, doctors, researchers and patients using cannabis for therapeutic purposes meet to exchange ideas and promote the ethical and controlled use of this plant. One of the most important events in Spain and Europe!

In France, there are very few events organized around cannabis or the hemp plant. The first trade show to take place is CBD Expo, in Paris (or elsewhere, such as Lyon in 2023). This is an international cannabidiol trade show dedicated to industry professionals (it's a B2B-only event). The next show will take place in Paris, on March 23, 24 and 25, at Porte de Versailles, in Hall 3. This year's event is intended to be a little more open than previous ones, targeting both professionals and end consumers.
Over 75 exhibitors are expected to take part, enabling 5,125 people to network in a 4,500m² venue. All the more reason to showcase the fast-growing hemp market, whose final value in France is estimated at 1.5 billion euros by 2023 (and even more by 2024)!
