What is therapeutic cannabis?

A major experiment was launched in March 2021. This study on therapeutic cannabis involves 3,000 patients suffering from serious, advanced illnesses such as multiple sclerosis, epilepsy or neuropathic pain.

The study is expected to last around two years. It will provide data and information that could then prompt those in charge to consider decriminalization and authorization of cannabis use in a purely medical context.

Recently questioned on the subject, former French Minister of Health Olivier Veran commented on the study. "It is the role of medicine to fight disease and relieve pain. [...] I'm proud that France is able to experiment with theuse of cannabis for medical purposes, and thus better support thousands of patients facing serious pathologies."

After several months of clinical trials and tests, an estimated 25% of patients have stopped their medical cannabis"treatment", mainly because of problems linked to side effects such as diarrhoea, drowsiness and other unpleasant and potentially dangerous effects for the patient.

Is cannabis still illegal?
