Find out all you need to know about CBDv
As you know, research into cannabis and hemp is constantly evolving. More and more studies are being carried out, enabling us to better understand how this plant and its components, known as cannabinoids, work.
In fact, one of them is starting to get people talking. It's called CBDv, or cannabidivarin. Do you know what it refers to? Do you know what it does? In the rest of this article, we'll tell you everything you need to know on the subject.

What is CBDv?
CBDv, for cannabidivarin, is a natural cannabinoid found in the hemp or cannabis plant. Like its cousin CBD (cannabidiol), CBDv is non-psychoactive. What's more, this cannabinoid is likely to have a number of benefits, particularly from a medical point of view... even though research is not yet sufficiently advanced to make such a claim.
CBDv was discovered for the very first time in 1969. Researchers studying the chemical composition of cannabis came across it. However, CBDv was soon "forgotten", in the sense that it is present only to a very limited extent in the cannabis plant, in its natural state. As a result, it has been less studied than THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) or CBD.
What you need to know about CBDv
CBDv is a molecule found mainly in cannabis strains with low THC content and high CBD concentrations. According to some studies, this molecule is produced by the plant in response to environmental stress. In fact, CBDv is found mainly in strains from cold regions or growing at altitude.
The action of CBDv
CBDv, like other cannabinoids, interacts directly with the endocannabinoid system (and its associated CB1 and CB2 receptors). These receptors are associated with various bodily functions, such as mood, stress, sleep and appetite.
Even so, its actual effects remain relatively unknown. It is assumed that, like CBD, CBDv would help to combat stress and anxiety, help to reduce pain and inflammation, and could even help to combat certain addictions, notably to tobacco or nicotine.
Like CBD, CBDv is not psychoactive. This means that no side effects, such as a high, red eyes, cravings, etc., are associated with its consumption. However, over-consumption can lead to mild side effects such as nausea, headaches, etc...
The differences between CBD and CBDv
CBD and CBDv, although quite similar, are two different molecules. First, their chemical structure! In fact, this is the main difference between the two. The side chain of CBDv is shorter than that of CBD, which means that the body and the endocannabinoid system interact differently depending on which molecule is ingested.
The second difference, as we've already mentioned, is their presence in the cannabis plant. CBD is a much more abundant molecule than CBDv, which is found in small quantities in hemp or cannabis. This implies that CBD is much more studied than CBDv, which is seen as a "secondary" cannabinoid.
The therapeutic potential of CBDv
As with many cannabinoids, researchers are particularly interested in the therapeutic potential of this CBDv molecule. In fact, the idea is to determine and understand how CBDv works and acts on the body, in order to get the best out of it. At this stage, however, studies are more focused on CBD and THC.
The few studies that have been carried out, however, have discovered that CBDv could help combat certain serious illnesses by reducing the impact of their symptoms. These include epilepsy, schizophrenia, nausea, inflammation and associated pain. Once again, while preliminary results are promising, we need much more!
CBDv-based products
At this stage, there are no CBDv-enriched or CBDv-only products. However, as with CBD, H4CBD and even HHC in the past, brands are likely to launch derivatives such as oils CBDv, Flowers CBDv or hash, or even e-liquids.
Firstly, it makes it possible to vary the offer and personalize support for consumers, who may, in some cases, prefer this or that type of product, this or that type of cannabinoid. Last but not least, it helps to advance research and policy on issues related to legal cannabis! In the face of rising demand and consumption, public authorities will need to respond appropriately.
CBD Wholesale, what we think of CBDv
At The CBD Wholesaler, we believe it's essential to study all the cannabinoids in the plant from hemp, whether from a scientific, therapeutic, social or economic point of view. Although still in its infancy, CBDv seems to be relatively promising.
Similar to CBD, but acting in a slightly different way, its potential benefits for the body could be significant. Naturally, it will be some time before researchers come to a reasonable conclusion, but the next few months and years promise to be particularly interesting in this respect.
Be careful, however. Research is still in its early stages, and there is no evidence to date that CBDv (or CBD for that matter) can be used to treat certain conditions (muscular, mental). Cannabinoids, moreover, are not medicines, and nothing beats the advice of a doctor or analysis! Take care when using them.
